If not properly cared for, dry skin care is prone to premature aging, loss of elasticity and becomes more sensitive. So what should be done to improve dry facial skin? The following article from HBIO Clinic will guide you on how to effectively moisturize and care for dry skin, helping your skin become softer, smoother and healthier every day.
What causes dry skin care?
- Effects of weather and environment: Dry, cold air in winter or in air-conditioned environments causes the skin to lose water quickly. Too much exposure to sunlight also causes the skin to lose moisture and become damaged.
- Using unsuitable skin care products: Using strong cleansers, containing alcohol or soap, which removes the natural protective oils of the skin. Using cosmetics of poor quality or not suitable for the skin type.
- Living habits: Washing your face too many times a day or using water that is too hot causes the skin to dry out and lose moisture balance. Lack of moisturizing habits after washing your face or bathing.
- Dehydration: Drinking too little water causes the skin to lack the necessary moisture from within.
- Improper diet: Lack of vitamins A, C, E, omega-3 – important nutrients for soft, smooth skin.
- Genetic factors or age: Some people have dry skin by nature. As they age, less natural oils are produced, making the skin more prone to dryness and wrinkles.
- Skin diseases: Conditions such as atopic dermatitis (eczema), psoriasis or contact dermatitis can all cause dry, flaky or itchy skin.

Basic dry skin care steps
Step 1: Cleanse gently
- Use a mild cleanser that does not contain soap or alcohol.
- Choose a moisturizer that is pH balanced (~5.5) and contains ingredients such as glycerin and ceramide
- Wash your face with warm (not hot) water, only 1–2 times/day to avoid stripping the skin of its natural oils.

Step 2: Use a moisturizing toner
- Choose an alcohol-free toner that contains moisturizing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, chamomile, aloe vera extract.
- Helps balance the skin and support the absorption of nutrients in the following steps.
Step 3: Hydrating serum – deep moisturizing
- Serum containing hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, B5 is a great choice for dry skin.
- Increases water retention, soothes the skin and reduces peeling.
Step 4: Moisturizing cream
- Moisturizer plays a role in locking in the moisture provided in the previous steps.
- Should choose a type with ingredients such as ceramide, shea butter, squalane, jojoba oil, non-irritating.
- Use both morning and night, especially at night to help restore the skin.
Step 5: Sunscreen every morning
- Dry skin also needs to be protected from UV rays – the cause of aging and dehydration.
- Use a sunscreen with added moisturizing ingredients like glycerin or vitamin E. Recommended: SPF 30+, broad-spectrum.

Step 6: Apply a moisturizing mask (2–3 times/week)
- Use a sheet mask or a moisturizing gel mask with ingredients such as HA, cucumber extract, rose.
- Helps the skin recover quickly and maintain its smoothness.
Step 7: Moisturize from the inside
- Drink enough 2–2.5 liters of water/day.
- Eat foods rich in omega-3, vitamins E, C, A (salmon, chia seeds, avocado, carrots…).
- Limit coffee, alcohol, and substances that dehydrate the skin.
